Why Your Body Won’t Relax (And How to Release Tension Naturally)

What if your body isn’t tight…
just waiting to feel safe?

So many people come to me saying the same thing:

“I stretch.”
“I try to relax.”
“I’m doing all the things… but my body still feels tight.”

And underneath that, there’s often a quiet frustration—
Why isn’t this working?

But here’s the truth:

Your body is not resisting you.
Your body is protecting you.

Your tension is not the problem

The tightness you feel in your neck, your jaw, your hips—
it’s not something to fix.

It’s something to understand.

The body holds patterns that were created over time.
Moments of stress.
Seasons of holding it all together.
Times when slowing down didn’t feel safe.

So the body adapted.

It learned how to brace.
How to stay alert.
How to hold.

Not because it’s broken—
but because it’s intelligent.

Why your body won’t let go

Relaxation isn’t something we can force.

It doesn’t come from pushing deeper into a stretch
or trying harder to “release.”

The nervous system has to feel safe enough to allow it.

And for many people, that safety hasn’t been fully established in the body.

So even when you try to soften,
something inside stays slightly guarded.

This is why:

You can stretch and still feel tight
You can rest and still feel wired
You can breathe deeply and still not drop in

Because your body is asking for something more foundational.

What your body is actually asking for

Not intensity.
Not more effort.

But a different kind of attention.

The kind that says:

You don’t have to hold everything right now.
You don’t have to push.
You can arrive slowly.

The body begins to unwind when it feels:

• Supported
• Not rushed
• Not judged
• Gently guided

This is where somatic work becomes different.

We’re not trying to override the body.
We’re learning how to listen to it.

A simple place to begin

You don’t need a full routine to start.

Just a moment.

Wherever you are, take a breath in through your nose…
and let it fall out of your mouth.

Again.
Slow inhale.
Soft exhale.

Now bring your attention to your jaw.

Is it holding?

Let your tongue soften.
Let your teeth part slightly.

Notice what happens in your body when you do.

Sometimes the smallest shift creates space.

This is how the body begins to change

Not through force.

But through repetition of safety.

Through small moments of noticing.
Of softening.
Of allowing.

Over time, the body learns:

It doesn’t have to hold the same way anymore.

An invitation

If your body has been asking for this kind of support—
a slower, more intentional way to unwind—

you don’t have to figure it out alone.

I offer gentle, trauma-informed somatic sessions and mindful movement practices designed to help you:

• Regulate your nervous system
• Release held tension
• Reconnect with your body in a safe, sustainable way

You can begin with a simple reset.

Or join me in ongoing practice.

Either way, we start where you are.

Your body remembers the way home.
This is just the beginning.
